Our Francigena, comparison of the leading areas

In Florence on the 23rd February, the final “La nostra Francigena”, or “Our Francigena”, conference will take place. 


The initiative, planned for 9:30am at the Tuscan Auditorium del Consiglio in via Cavour 4, will be a moment of discussion on the collaboration with the areas presented in Florence last November an followed throughout the following months along the stops of the Francigena: Fucecchio, Pontremoli, Siena and  Lucca.

The event, organised by Regione Toscana, Consiglio regionale della Toscana and Toscana Promozione Turistica, in collaboration with the European Association of the Vie Francigene and the Council of Europe, will highlight important topics; the Via Francigena on foot, on horseback, by bike; its candidacy for Unesco heritage; events to be realised in 2018 and its promotion for an international market; the “homogeneous touristic product”; the proposal of laws on historic, cultural and religious routes which cross Tuscany and lastly, the next actions of the Giunta sulla Francigena.

As well as the speakers and experts of the sector, also taking part is: Eugenio Giani, president of the regional council; Monica Barni, vice-president of the regional government and regional assessor of culture; Francesco Gazzetti, regional councillor for the Tuscan Francigena; Alberto Peruzzini, director of Toscana Promozione Turistica; Stefano Romagnoli, director of the touristic route sector for Regione Toscana; Stefano Ciuoffo, regional assessor for productive activities and tourism; Paolo Chiappini, director of Fondazione Sistema Toscana; Albino Caproale, director of productive activities for Regione Toscana; Lucia De Robertis, vice-president of the regional council and signatory for the proposal of law n.173; Pia Petrangeli, general director of tourism for the ministry of environmental, cultural and touristic  heritage; and Gianni Anselmi, regional councillor president II of the council commission. 

The president of the European Association of the Vie Francigene, Massimo Tedeschi, will also be present with the contribution of the role of associations in the development of cultural routes as well as the forthcoming coordination between walking associations.

The meeting in Florence will summarise the technical-seminar meetings in the area. The final objective of the route is the definition of the homogeneous touristic product following the protocol signed by the municipalities. Last spring, 39 municipalities along the Via Francigena met in 4 homogeneous areas for management associated to the actions and politics of valuing the Via Francigena touristic product.
