The biannual magazine “Via Francigena and the European Cultural Routes“, the official editorial tool of the European Association of the Via Francigena ways EAVF, blows out 50 candles.
The presentation of the magazine will take place on Friday 11 December at 11.00 – 12.30 live on the EAVF Facebook page@ViaFrancigenaCulturalRoute!
An important milestone could only contain important news: “Road to Rome 2021” event! 2021 is a year of the EAVF 20th anniversary, as the association was founded on 7 April 2001 by the municipalities united with their passion for the Via Francigena.
What is the best way to celebrate such a milestone? The EAVF has a definite answer: a long trip from Canterbury to Santa Maria di Leuca on foot and bicycle! Municipalities and members, staff, walkers and pilgrims, bloggers and journalists will come together for a march. Stay tuned to join us!
The 50th edition presents intriguing cultural and natural heritage along the Via Francigena, such as cycling and walking itineraries around the town of Fidenza, the historic seat of the EAVF, which offer combined sports and cultural experience. Reading the magazine, one enjoys landscapes and traditions of the Doubs area in France and the lively city of Besançon with its surroundings. The reader also gets to know a new Via Francigena variant in Italian Emilia-Romagna that runs along the Taro river in the province of Parma.
Few new projects are presented in the upcoming edition, such as a promotional walking trip in Switzerland conducted by the EAVF team; new cooperation with a British publishing house Cicerone Press on creating a new Via Francigena guide by pilgrims for pilgrims and ongoing collaborations with the Consortium of Parmigiano-Reggiano and Prosciutto Toscano, two gastronomic hallmarks that make the Via Francigena a path of taste. Finally, we present a new technical partner – Garmont, which provides high quality footwear to allow everyone to walk the Via at its best.
News from the friends’ organisations and routes in this issue cover an update from the Confraternity of Pilgrims to Rome and the Via Francisca del Lucomango. The Via Francisca starts in German town of Konstanz and leads to Pavia via Liechtenstein and Switzerland. That is an itinerary that crosses Alpine passes, UNESCO sites, natural parks, providing an excellent opportunity to enjoy rivers and canals which accompany travellers during the whole trip.
