A stamp dedicated to the Via Fracigena will be presented in Gropello Cairoli on 1st May.

The Friend municipality of the European Association of Via Francigena Ways (EAVF) and historical stop of the Via Francigena in the province of Pavia, has indeed created the “seal” to stamp on Pilgrim Passports of those who travel the cultural route of the Council of Europe.

We drew the stamp and it takes us back to the chorus of a song in dialect together with the image of Saint George the Martyr, the patron saint of Gropello Cairoli – explains mayor, Chiara Rocca  it will soon be available at the general register office, library and parish church.

The presentation will take place during the second edition of “May in Gropello Cairoli on the notes of the Via Francigena“. Walks, tastings, conferences and animation: this year, thanks to the collaboration with the Cantoni municipal library and the volunteers, the Via Francigena will be “celebrated” with four events from 1st to 5th May.

As well as being the stamp presentation date, the 1st May will host a family walk in collaboration with the municipality of Dorno, called “The Via Francigena meets the Via delle Gallie”. We will give the Via Francigena brochure to all participants who arrive from all municipalities. We’re investing a lot in this project. These are difficult times for municipalities, we must make difficult decisions from an economic and human perspective, but we’re very happy” explains Rocca.

The Lombard municipality, found in the heart of Lomellina, realised a series of initiatives for territorial promotion and hospitality, thinking of tourists and pilgrims. As well as the “Gropello Cairoli sulla Via Francigena” brochure, the administration has strived for the launching of a free Wi-Fi access point near the square and town hall, some signs with the QR code have been erected regarding the audio guide. Lastly, an information pannel has also been erected by the EAVF in collaboration with the region and other municipalities in Lombardy.

“Again, this year we have worked hard on promotion and marketing initiatives to enhance our town beginning with culture and the Francigena.” added Chiara Rossi. Lots of little good practices which have even become a case study for a dissertation at IULM. “The student is interested in how we are promoting the Via Francigena: a big cause of pride for our little community“.
