EAVF General Assembly

🇬🇧 The European Association of the Via Francigena ways (EAVF) will meet up in Calais (Hauts-de-France region, France) on 26 May for its General Assembly.

The city of Calais, source of inspiration for many artists, is a symbolic place of the Via Francigena, where pilgrims arrive after crossing the Channel Strait, embarking from the city of Dover (Kent, England).

The General Assembly, in Calais as in each of its semestral editions, brings together the 224 members and 80 EAVF friend associations operating in the four countries of the Via Francigena: England, France, Switzerland and Italy.

The plenary meeting, at the splendid Town Hall of Calais, will be on Friday 26 May from 14.00 to 18.00 and will bring up the discussion of very significant points for the EAVF and for the future of the Via Francigena: the final balance sheet and the provisional budget, the UNESCO candidacy, the strategic plan 2023-2025, the international planning, the best practices among territories for the promotion of the route.

A rich programme of cultural activities is planned to accompany the Assembly: on 24 and 25 May there will be walks in collaboration with the Confraternity of Pilgrims to Rome and the Arras Compostelle Francigena Association; on the morning of 26 May there will be a sightseeing tour of the city of Calais; on the morning of 27 May there will be an excursion to the Côte d’Opale.

Here is the programme for the walk on 24 May from Shepherdswell to Dover, England:

CPR is organising a walk from Shepherdswell to Dover, with the possibility of continuing to Calais for the Assembly. Here is how the day will unfold:

1. Canterbury (9am) – Blessing at the Cathedral;
2. Walk to Canterbury East station to catch the train (10.41am) to Shepherdswell;
3. Arrival at Shepherdswell station (10.58am) and walk to St Andrew’s Church for refreshments;
4. Walk from Shepherdswell to Dover (approx. 13 km / 8 miles);
5. Arrival at the ferry at 14.40 for the 17.25 journey to Calais;
6. Arrival in Calais at 19.55 local time and dinner with CPR.

Here is the programme for the 25 May walk from Calais to Wissant, France:

Departure from Wissant Place de l’église at 9.30 am. To reach Wissant, there are 2 possibilities:

1. Park your car in Calais, near the train station, then take the line 427 bus from Wissant at 8.16 am (arrival in Wissant at 9 am)
2. Drive directly to Wissant and then take the bus to Wissant in the afternoon on arrival in Calais (16.45 and 18.23).

The show “La légende de Sigeric” will be performed in Calais at 5 pm. There will be a snack break during the hike.

🇮🇹 L’Associazione Europea delle Vie Francigene (AEVF) si ritroverà a Calais (regione Hauts-de-France, in Francia) il prossimo 26 maggio per la propria Assemblea Generale.

La città di Calais, fonte d’ispirazione per molti artisti, è un luogo simbolico della Via Francigena, dove il pellegrino arriva dopo aver attraversato lo stretto della Manica, imbarcandosi dalla città di Dover (Kent, Inghilterra).

L’Assemblea Generale, a Calais come in ogni sua edizione, riunisce in presenza i 224 soci e le 80 associazioni amiche AEVF operanti nei quattro Paesi della Via Francigena: Inghilterra, Francia, Svizzera e Italia.

L’incontro in plenaria, presso lo splendido Municipio di Calais, è previsto venerdì 26 maggio dalle ore 14.00 alle ore 18.00 e vedrà la discussione di punti molto significativi per AEVF e per il futuro della Via Francigena: il bilancio consuntivo e il bilancio previsionale, la candidatura UNESCO, il piano strategico 2023-2025, la progettazione internazionale, le buone pratiche dei territori per la promozione del cammino.

A corollario dell’Assemblea è previsto un nutrito programma di animazione culturale: il 24 e il 25 maggio le camminate in collaborazione con Confraternity of Pilgrims to Rome e l’Associazione Arras Compostelle Francigena; il 26 mattina la visita turistica della città di Calais; il 27 mattina l’escursione alla Côte d’Opale.

CPR sta organizzando una passeggiata da Shepherdswell a Dover, con la possibilità di proseguire fino a Calais per l’Assemblea. Ecco come si svilupperà la giornata:

1. Canterbury (ore 9) – benedizione alla Cattedrale;
2. Camminata fino alla stazione di Canterbury East per prendere il treno (10.41) per Shepherdswell;
3. Arrivo alla stazione di Shepherdswell (10.58) e passeggiata fino alla chiesa di St. Andrew per un rinfresco;
4. Camminata da Shepherdswell a Dover (circa 13 km)
5. Arrivo al traghetto alle 14.40 per il viaggio delle 17.25 verso Calais.
6. Arrivo a Calais alle 19.55 ora locale e cena con CPR

Partenza da Wissant Place de l’église alle ore 9.30. Per raggiungere Wissant, ci sono 2 possibilità:

1. Parcheggiare l’auto a Calais, vicino alla stazione ferroviaria, poi prendere l’autobus della linea 427 da Wissant alle 8.16 (arrivo a Wissant alle 9.00)
2. Guidare direttamente fino a Wissant e poi prendere l’autobus per Wissant nel pomeriggio all’arrivo a Calais (ore 16.45 e 18.23).

Lo spettacolo “La légende de Sigeric” sarà rappresentato a Calais alle 17.00. Ci sarà una pausa spuntino durante l’escursione.

L’Assemblée Générale, à Calais comme à chaque édition, réunit les 224 membres et les 80 associations amies de l’AEVF opérant dans les quatre pays de la Via Francigena : l’Angleterre, la France, la Suisse et l’Italie.

La réunion plénière, dans le magnifique Hôtel de Ville de Calais, est prévue le vendredi 26 mai de 14h00 à 18h00 et verra la discussion de points très importants pour l’AEVF et pour l’avenir de la Via Francigena : le bilan final et le budget prévisionnel, la candidature à l’UNESCO, le plan stratégique 2023-2025, la planification internationale, les bonnes pratiques des territoires pour la promotion de la marche.

Un riche programme d’activités culturelles est prévu pour accompagner l’Assemblée : les 24 et 25 mai, des marches seront organisées en collaboration avec la Confraternity of pilgrims to Rome et l’Association Arras Compostelle Francigena ; le 26 mai au matin, une visite touristique de la ville de Calais ; le 27 mai au matin, une excursion sur la Côte d’Opale.

Le CPR organise une marche de Shepherdswell à Douvres, avec la possibilité de continuer jusqu’à Calais pour l’Assemblée. Voici comment se déroulera la journée :

1. Canterbury (9 heures) – Bénédiction à la cathédrale ;
2. Marche jusqu’à la gare de Canterbury East pour prendre le train (10 h 41) à destination de Shepherdswell ;
3. Arrivée à la gare de Shepherdswell (10h58) et marche jusqu’à l’église St Andrew pour un rafraîchissement ;

2. Se rendre directement à Wissant et prendre le bus pour Wissant dans l’après-midi à l’arrivée à Calais (16h45 et 18h23).

Le spectacle « La légende de Sigeric » sera joué à Calais à 17 heures. Une pause casse-croûte est prévue pendant l’excursion.
