To respond to an ever increasing number of pilgrims along the Via Francigena in the area, the parish of Santa Maria Nuova from historic center of Viterbo, founded a friends association Amici della via Francigena di Viterbo.

It is a non-profit social and cultural association with a social utility in favor of Via Francigena pilgrims. Aims and objectives of the association, as indicated by the statute, include welcome in the Pilgrim’s hostel, spiritual assistance and pilgrim’s blessing ritual, information materials for better pilgrimage experience on the Via Francigena. The idea of ​​forming an association for pilgrims comes from pilgrims’ hostel volunteers, which over time evolved with a statute and a foundation.

In particular, the association will provide information regarding the last hundred kilometers (or slightly more) on the Via Francigena, which separate Viterbo from the tomb of the apostle Peter – a destination of numerous pilgrims every year – as well as information regarding the continuation of the route along the Via Francigena in the South.

Amici della Via Francigena association wants to enhance the pilgrimage not only as a universal human phenomenon, but also as a cultural, social and spiritual experience.

The Friends of the Via Francigena association intends to provide assistance and information to all the pilgrims to allow them to better enjoy the pilgrimage experience.
