Great enthusiasm for the 2018 edition of the Cammino dei Papi – the Popes’ Way – along the Montefiascone-Viterbo leg of the Via Francigena.
The 300 registered participants arrived at the starting point and after the distribution of free t-shirts dedicated to the initiative, Lido Crescentini, president of the Association of Via Francigena Ways in Montefiascone and organiser of the hike, gave participants the hike itinerary. After which he followed the day’s organisation, together with many volunteers from the involved authorities and associations, from the Ambulanza Falisca to the Guardie Ecozoofile and the Carabinieri to AIDO.
The highest point of the route, Rocca dei Papi di Montefiascone, is the ancient summer Papal residence and place where the view of the lake of Boisean can be best appreciated. Drinks were distributed along the hike, which were much appreciated by all. Another interesting aspect along the route were the ruins of the Roman Baths. Much excitement ensued once arrived at the Palazzo dei Papi di Viterbo, the story of which is famous all around the world.
They returned to Montefiascone by bus, where the reception surprised everyone with a rich and abundant lunch served in the hall of the Rocca dei Papi. At the end of the journey the participants were also given a rucksack and two bottles of the famous Est Est Est white wine, produced by the Cantina di Montefiascone.
An unforgettable day ended as an emblem of well-being, of nature and history. Organised brilliantly by the Association of Via Francigena Ways in Montefiascone with the support of the municipality of Montefiascone, the municipality of Viterbo, the Chamber of Commerce of Viterbo and the European Association of Via Francigena Ways (EAVF) represented at the event by Elisabetta Ferrari.
