An announcement for the valuation of historical-cultural routes reserved for municipalities and associations for the development of pilgrim routes. The project was proposed by the Gruppo dei Dodici, with the support of the European Association of the Vie Francigena.
The Idea
We all appreciate the beauty of our historical-cultural routes and their environmental, artistic, spiritual and social values. Those who walk along the route can fully appreciate these qualities.
It is, however, best to pay attention not only to the characteristics of value, but also the particular details found along the route. An example is that many of our routes have very few concrete signs that characterise the way as “vie di pellegrinaggio”, or in other words pilgrim roads, such as chapels, frescoes, boundary stones, columns, sculptures, mural paintings etc. It is additionally favourable to encourage walkers to improve the access of the trails as they journey towards their destinations.
The Prizes
Five prizes constituted of “Stelle d’argento su bastone di pellegrino” will be given to municipalities as well as voluntary associations which place the pilgrim symbol on the routes, or suggest initiatives that encourage and inspire pilgrims to contribute towards improving the routes access.
Competitors are required to send their description/photos and a brief presentation of the sender accompanied by the list of the most important initiatives founded in the past year by the 3rd October 2017 to:
