The European Association of the Via Francigena Ways participates in the call “Democracy Needs Imagination”, organised by the European Cultural Foundation.
This programme aims to support individuals and organisations working for European democratic values, fighting for their rights as citizens, encouraging creation of public space and enhancement of personal freedoms, as well as inspiring creative expression.
The Via Francigena – the Cultural Route of the Council of Europe – is a route of peace and intercultural and inter-religious dialogue. The Via promotes the values of the Council of Europe on the ground – democracy, human rights, understanding and tolerance. It is of crucial importance for the EAVF to participate in initiatives focused on democracy and civil rights as one of the priority action areas of the association.
The European Cultural Foundation, based in the Netherlands, nurtures a socially engaged and culturally rooted civil society across Europe. It is committed to making a tangible impact on civil society, citizen initiatives, public opinion and policy proposals, and combat the fragmenting forces jeopardising peace and social progress in Europe.
The results of the call will be made available on 30 October 2019.
