The new issue of the official European Association of Via Francigena Ways (EAVF) magazine is now online. The biannual magazine presents a renewed graphic look and international content.
The first six months of 2018 were full of events towards the development of Sigeric’s route. The 45th edition tells readers about faces and places through interviews and specials dedicated to the territories.
Among the protagonists are the EAVF members: Champlitte, host of the first General Assembly in French territory; Guardamiglio in the province of Lodi, Ivrea in Piedmont and Gambassi Terme. The Tuscan town, and very popular stage of the Francigena, offers the healing thermal waters for pilgrims and displays its beauty on the cover of this issue with the church of Santa Maria Assunta in Chianni.
“The Via Francigena continues to grow and aims at new and great goals“, says AEVF President Massimo Tedeschi at the opening of the editorial dedicated to the UNESCO project. “There is indeed a large European family committed to the future of the route.In May it met in France, welcomed new members and now looks to the autumn assembly in Ivrea, as explained in an interview with Andrea Benedino, former Councillor for Culture and Tourism of the Piedmont municipality. These six months of 2018 have also seen another connection, that of the Holy Headquarters to the Partial Extended Agreement of the Cultural Routes of the Council of Europe. As said by Bishop Bravi, Permanent Observer of the Holy Headquarters to the World Tourism Organisation, in his speech entitled “Routes of pilgrimage: dialogue between faith and culture“.
The Via Francigena is made from enthusiasm. Brian Mooney has presented his work in England from the Confraternity of Pilgrims to Rome, and SloWays recounts his experience as a tour operator along the way. Important news arrives from Switzerland too. As explained by Gaëtan Tornay, Vice President of the EAVF, responsible for the development of the Via Francigena in Switzerland, the first Via Francigena official guide for north of the Alps will be published in April 2019.
And with the territories are the soul of the journey, the EAVF presents “Le terre della Via Francigena“. Sami Tawfik (EAVF project manager) illustrates the new project that will give visibility to the realities linked to the route. Step by step, the magazine accompanies the reader on a journey to discover the paths of Veneto with the Via Claudia Augusta, the Via Romea Germanica, the Romea Strata, the Cammino delle Dolomiti and the Cammino di Sant’Antonio.
From earth to space. In a stellar interview, the astronaut Maurizio Cheli unveils the behind the scenes of his exploits and declares his next goal: to take on the Via Francigena. With a special ingredient, Parmigiano Reggiano. The excellent food and wine walk together with the Via Francigena: the Parmigiano Reggiano Consortium is among the major partners of the magazine, together with the Consorzio del Prosciutto Toscano and “Piace-Doc” the Consortium for the protection of the DOC wines of the Piacenza Hills.
