From the end of April, hikers will find new signage in the Reims area.
The city of the historical region of north-eastern France, Alsace-Champagne-Ardenne-Lorraine, has now been decked with 55 gold plaques with “Via Francigena GR145” written on them.
The initiative, launched by the departmental hiking committee of Marna two years ago, aimed to revitalise the GR by focusing on a large city, in this case Reims. The project is supported by the GRTgaz, who wanted to support the FFR project.
This urban signage goes on for 4km, along the Green Flow and the Via Francigena. 60 plaques will be placed in total and the last 5km will await the end of the works in the square of Saint-Rémi basilica. Inauguration of the new route will take place in the autumn of 2019.
