Rome participates in the European Festival “the Via Francigena Collective Project 2016 – the Year of Walkers”
This year, Rome will take part in the European Festival “Via Francigena Collective Project 2016”, an event promoted by the European Association of the Via Francigena and the Associazion Civita and sponsored by MiBACT and the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces. For the occasion, the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage Capitolina has designed and implemented a program of events that will highlight some sites of historical and archaeological interest and natural beauty within the city that lie along the ancient pilgrimage route. Called ‘Following Sigerico’, this initiative is dedicated to pilgrims and citizens, providing cultural and educational activities for all ages (“Pilgrims who leave their mark” and “Hunting for Sigerico”), but also historical and nature tours (” Francigena … naturally! “) focused on the history of pilgrimage, the Via Francigena and the archbishop Sigeric who traveled the Via Francigena in the tenth century .
The events are free of charge and will be coordinated by official archaeologists and art historians of the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage Capitolina and carried out ​​with the cooperation of the Civil Service Volunteers working along the Via Francigena in the project “Roma welcomes the world.” The historical and nature tours are organized in collaboration with Roma Natura.
The initiatives will take place between June and October, the first meeting is scheduled for June 26.

26 June, 10 am: ‘Pilgrims who leave their mark’ – in the Museum of the Walls. A guided visit and workshop dedicated to children; max. 20 children accompanied by an adult.
4 September, 10.30 am: “Hunt for Sigeric” – Isola Farnese- : a treasure hunt for children (aged 5-12), max. 15 children accompanied by an adult.
11 September, 9.30 am: ‘Francigena…Naturally!’ – Nature Reserve of Monte Mario, appointment in Piazza di Monte Gaudio (in front of the church of S. Francesco); max. 30 people
