Currently the European Association of the Via Francigena ways (EAVF) is focused on monitoring activities of the itinerary and is therefore collecting best practices along the route from Canterbury to Santa Maria di Leuca, implemented by public bodies, associations, accommodation facilities and private stakeholders in 2019.

Three best practices will be presented and awarded during the next EAVF General Assembly which will take place in Pontremoli, Italy on 23 October 2020.

Collected material will constitute an important database which will be available to the AEVF members for consultation and awareness-raising. The association, tightly connected to its members, territories crossed and local communities, is ever interested in their initiatives and activities.

The Via Francigena being an historic road, is also a living reality for those who live along the route as well as to the modern pilgrims, walkers, cyclists, travellers which find joy and a sense of belonging on the way.
This is why the word “network” is so important for us, as the itinerary is created by people who support the valorisation of the path.

From walks on weekends, meetings and conferences, school work, organisation of festivals and gastronomic degustations – that is all the Via Francigena, its people and lands. 

The EAVF is preparing to “map” and disseminate the best practices to inspire its active supporters in each country crossed by the route and is hoping to further consolidate and deepen active contribution of its members.
