The training route for tourism operators dedicated to the enhancement of the Francigena opened on 7th May.
The initiative was organised by the municipality of Siena, leader of management for the enhancement of the Via Francigena, with the region of Tuscany, the European Association of Via Francigena Ways and the Tuscan Association of Via Francigena Ways and Routes. Other municipalities involved are the municipalities of San Gimignano, Colle Val d’Elsa, Monteriggioni d’Arbia, Monteroni, Buonconvento, Montalcino, San Quirico d’Orcia, Castiglione d’Orcia, Radicofani, Abbadia SS and San Casciano dei Bagni.
The training route ‘Your Francigena in the Lands of Siena‘ foresees 5 dates in which detailed studies, seminars and hiking days in the most significant areas of the route will alternate. The seminar of 7th May will focus on the importance of routes for territorial development, with particular attention on the route which crosses the province: from San Gimignano to San Casciano dei Bagni of around 160km.
Among those involved is Sami Tawfik, Project Manager, European Association of Via Francigena Ways, who contributed to the theme of “Via Francigena. Cultural Route of the Council of Europe. How routes work towards territorial development“. Presentation of planning, services and good practice along the European Francigena.
Local good practices were shared throughout the seminar (from San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, Castiglione d’Orcia and Radicofani) and those of other areas, represented by Christian Schülé, representative of the EAVF in Switzerland, and Carla Cropera of Fidenza. Participants can also take part in guided trekking days on 15th, 22nd and 29th May. The final seminar will take place on 5th June at Santa Maria della Scala, it will focus on the topic of hospitality and services, as well as promotional tools.
